Labor & Delivery
At South Lincoln Medical Center, we are committed to making your birth experience proceed smoothly and without complication.
What to Expect During Labor:
If you believe you are in labor, call your physician or please come into the ER so that a medical professional can assess the situation.
If you are in labor, you will immediately be transferred to a private delivery room. If you are not in true labor, you will be sent home with discharge instructions.
Electronic fetal monitoring will be performed to track your labor progress, as well as physical assessments.
A CRNA is always on call for pain relief. If you would like an unmedicated delivery, let the medical staff know. We want to make your labor as comfortable as possible.
Mothers and babies stay together after the birth, provided there were no complications.
After an uncomplicated vaginal delivery, most mother and babies stay in the hospital for 24-48 hours.
What to Expect During Cesarean Sections:
If you have a planned Cesarean Section, your date and time will be scheduled with your Provider.
You will have the opportunity to talk with your physician and anesthesia provider before entering the operating room. They will ensure that all of your questions are answered.
We encourage you to have a partner present during your C-Section. Additional family members may wait in your post-partum room.
After an uncomplicated C-section, mother and babies stay in the hospital for 48-72 hours.
Remember, that the unexpected can always happen. Our birthing team is trained to handle emergencies and complication if they arise.
After the Baby is Born
Our private postpartum rooms are specifically designed to allow you to fully recover from delivery and get acquainted with your newborn. Our nursing staff will provide support and education on topics such as breastfeeding, bathing, diapering, and care of the umbilical cord. We do offer circumcision care per the request of the mother. Our babies stay in their mothers' rooms most of the time, but the nursery is available if you need time to yourself for rest or recovery. We encourage open communication and discussion and will answer any questions you may have about baby care upon returning home.
